Whole Home Renovations

Nixon Custom Homes is best known for building luxury custom homes from the ground up across the DFW area. But for the right project, we also take on whole home renovations, and we bring the exact same high standards to every one.

If you have a home that’s ready for transforming, here’s what working with us looks like.

About Whole Home Renovations

Primarily, our renovation work focuses on large-scale projects where complete transformation is the goal. That means gut renovations, significant additions, and historic restorations where the scope and complexity demand a builder with deep experience.

If you’re looking to repaint a kitchen or replace flooring, we’re likely not the right fit. But if your vision requires tearing things down to the studs, rethinking the entire layout, or expanding the footprint of the home, that’s where we excel.

Is a Whole Home Renovation Right for You?

There are real advantages to renovating an existing home over building new, but it’s not the right path for everyone. A whole home renovation tends to make the most sense when:

  • You’re committed to staying in your neighborhood or a specific historic district in Dallas
  • Your home has architectural character or sentimental value worth preserving
  • You want the feel and finish of a custom home without starting from scratch
  • A large addition is needed alongside a full interior overhaul

If none of those feel like your situation, new construction may be the better route. We’re happy to talk through both options during your initial consultation.

The Luxury Renovation Process

Start a Conversation

We’ll sit down to talk through your project, your vision, your budget, and what you’re hoping to accomplish. This isn’t a sales call. It’s a working conversation where we get into the details and figure out whether we’re the right builder for your project.

We’ll be straightforward about what’s realistic. If the structure you’re starting with is going to create problems, we’ll tell you. If new construction would serve your goals better than renovation, we’ll say that too. This consultation typically runs 60–90 minutes.

Assessing the Existing Structure

Before any renovation work begins, we conduct a thorough assessment of the home. Older homes in the DFW area often carry hidden challenges, like outdated plumbing, aging electrical systems, and structural issues that don’t surface until work is underway. We identify as much as possible before the project starts so you go in with a clear picture.

Planning & Design

Once we understand the existing structure, we work with you and your design team to develop a plan. Whole home renovations require the same level of coordination as new construction, materials, systems, layout changes, and subcontractors all need to be aligned before the first wall comes down. We build out a full project schedule so you know what to expect and when.

Construction

Now the exciting part begins, you’ll see your new home begin to unfold.

You’ll also see our top tier jobsite standards at play. Access is restricted, PPE is required, and we hold firm to our neighborhood hours, no activity before 7:00am or after 7:00pm, no work on Sundays. At the end of every workday, the site is clean and materials are properly stored.

Project Closing & Beyond

When construction wraps, we’ll walk through the finished project together to identify anything that needs attention before you move back in. Three months after project completion, we come back to address anything that’s come up since. We do it again at eleven months (before the standard one-year manufacturer warranty expires) to get ahead of any issues proactively.

Why Nixon Custom Homes

“Over the past 20 years, we have built four homes from the ground up, and we can easily say our experience with Nixon Custom Homes has set the bar as the best builder we have ever worked with.”

We’ve spent over 30 years building luxury homes across Dallas, Texas and the surrounding DFW area. In that time, we’ve seen what happens when builders cut corners, set unrealistic expectations, or treat renovation work as secondary to new construction. We don’t do any of that. Our approach is built on high standards and ruthless honesty, whether we’re building from scratch or transforming what’s already there.
